Dog Beds

Do not place your dog’s bed near a doorway or in the hallway leading to the bedrooms. Placing a dog bed right near a doorway or in the hallway leading to the bedroom is teaching him that you want him to protect that area.  Imagine putting a marine on duty and telling him to stand or sit in a specific location.

If you place the dog bed near the front door he may feel the need to protect the front door and guard against anyone coming in.  Instead, it is better to place the bed towards the back of the room.  If your dog will be allowed on furniture, please refer to the furniture rule in the training section.

Be sure to place the smells of as many humans and animals as possible by rubbing the paper towels onto his bedding and anywhere he’ll be sitting so he does not become protective.
