Losing a dog is one of the most terrifying senerios of dog ownership. Some dogs are not particulary friendly or cooperative when they are scared, lost, and on the run. In the past we were relegated to only having the option of checking the tag or microchip of a found dog. A new technology that is saving the lives of pets is GPS tracking. These devices can be attached to a harness or collar. GPS tracking can determine exactly where the dog or pet is located and, unlike microchips or tags, can be postiviely identified from a distance. Chips are excellent for identification for a dog who has been located and then their owner can be found, however microchips do not provide assistance in locating a lost pet.
