Connection is chemistry. A Connection is why we love our dogs. A Connection is a concept that is abstract yet very concrete in our hearts and souls. A But connection goes much deeper when we relate it back to animals and why some of us, particularly those who are very social and outgoing seek the love and connection of a pet. Â Dogs NEED us often as much as we NEED them.
Connection is built on trust and respect. Think about the people you feel closest to. Do you trust them? Do you respect them? You’re probably nodding your head “yes” right now. We generally do not respect someone we do not trust, and generally do not trust someone we do not respect. When we hear the phrase “A broken heart”, we should not think of our heart breaking at the loss of our pet but rather that the piece of our heart our pet takes with them is replaced by a piece of their heart that they gave us. So the pain we often feel during loss may be the transfer of a piece of one heart into the other’s body. When we do not share a connection with someone, we do not have the pleasure and blessing of this transference of heart. But anyway we look at it, connection is real and most of us would never trade that joy of connection for anything.
