Senior Dogs
Senior dogs are typically 7 to 8 years or older. As a general guideline slowly begin to reduce the amount of fat in your dog’s diet, since fat and other ingredients may potentially lead to pancreatitis or other conditions. Pancreatitis is a condition whereby the pancreas becomes inflamed and can lead to pain and discomfort as well as other serious medical conditions. It’s also generally advisable, and please check with your veterinarian, to have older dogs steer clear or a high percentage of protein in their diets. Proteins typically tend to be more difficult to digest. And not only do they lead to hyperactivity in some dogs, they can also tax the kidneys.
When changing any part of your pet’s diet, do not change everything at once. Even if you are changing from a very low quality food to a high quality food, it is generally advisable to do it over a period of time. Remember that your body and you pet’s body need to adjust and acclimate. So, take your time.
