ID Tags and GPS Tracking

Every dog should have a collar with an ID tag and a GPS tracking device. A GPS tracking device is NOT the same as a microchip.

Microchips are wonderful to prove ownership if your dog is lucky enough to find his way to a shelter, vet or other location with a microchip reader. However, a microchip requires that your dog be physically caught and scanned.  It does not help your dog to be found.

GPS tracking devices are quite affordable and are part of our Wyatt’s List community action program.  When your dog is lost and the GPS tracking device is activated the Wyatt’s List community of dog lovers will mobilize to help you locate and catch your dog safely.  Much like an “Amber Alert”, when your dog is lost, this technology will activate the pinging of your dog’s GPS tracking device.  Any member of the Wyatt’s List community within a set distance will receive an emergency alert on their own cellphone.  This alert will tell them that a community members dog is lost and is in need of assistance.  Special instructions will be sent via text so that Wyatt’s List searchers will know how to find your beloved pet. When your dog is found safely, the community will be alerted via text.

Additionally, posters with your dog’s vital statistics and last known location will be automatically generated when you send out the alert on your missing dog.  This will enable you to print posters and will also enable Wyatt’s List community members to print your poster and post it in other locations to expand the search radius.  The “social media” button will automatically post your pet’s photos and poster on the social media so that people can immediately begin to search for your lost pet.  It truly takes a village to find a lost pet.
