Crates

There are primarily three types of crates and each one serves a different purpose

Airline crate

Made of heavy impact resistant plastic
Can be more expensive
Larger as the FAA requires that a dog must be able to stand, turn around and lift its head without hitting the top of the crate
Can get very hot in the summer because there is not a great amount of ventilation. There are holes in the sides and front of the crate for airflow but make sure that the dog has adequate airflow and water
They can break up and become half their original size
Very safe and sturdy
Can place a fair amount of weight on the top of the crate and your dog will still be safe and sound inside
Can be easily washed down with a hose or power washer
Use vinegar or a pet friendly cleaning product
Great option if your dog tends to try to escape , chew or bend the bars of the crate

Collapsible Wire Crates

Collapses flat and measure about two to four inches high
Simple to store and reassemble quickly
Not the best option if your dog tends to try to escape, chew or bend the bars of the crate

Collapsible Fabric and Mesh Crates

Very convenient, portable and extremely lightweight
Not the best option if your dog tends to try to escape, chew or bend the bars of the crate

Furniture Style Crates

Not portable
Made of hardwood so not the best option for chewers
Can be a bit pricey but they can double as furniture pieces (end table for example)
Typically well constructed and well designed

Solid Pro-type Metal Crates

Almost indestructible
Extremely strong, solid, and safe
High and large enough for any large breed
Includes wheels
Can be a bit pricey
Great option if your dog tends to try to escape , chew or bend the bars of the crate

Never leave any crate in direct sunlight or in an area that may become overly hot or cold

Warning: young puppies or smaller breed dog may easily be caught or catch their head or foot in one of the holes

Make sure to fully assemble and ensure that you have checked every safety feature
